Class AAA Boys

I'll be doing the recap a little different this year. Since video is available for each race, there's really no need for me to type out a description of how it happened. You can watch the video if you want to see how the race played out.

100 Meter Dash
Capital's Damian Johnson sped away from the field to take the win by over 0.3 seconds with a 10.94 clocking. Bridgeport got a nice 2-3 finish from Gavin Williams and William George.
RunWV's Current Score: 7 of 8.

200 Meter Dash
Bridgeport upped their 2-3 finish in the 100 by going 1-2 in the 200. It was William George on top this time in 21.99 with Gavin Williams 2nd in 22.15. Only Greenbrier East's Nathan Suttle was under 22.50 among the rest of the field with a 22.34 for 3rd. One of my predicted placers scratched the event, and one of the qualifiers did't start the final.
RunWV's Current Score: 14 of 16.

400 Meter Dash
This one had a very close finish that saw both competitors ending up sprawled on the track. Princeton's Jacob Hall and Chapmanville's Trey Ward traded leads down the stretch with Hall getting the final edged 50.25 to 50.27. A close race for 3rd followed with Winfield's Lincoln Haynes nipping St. Albans' William Wolfingbarger for the spot 50.70 to 50.72. PikeView's Tyler Huffman was also under 51 with a 50.84. One of my predicted placers did not finsh, pulling up about 2 steps into the race.
RunWV's Current Score: 21 of 24.

800 Meter Run
A close 3 man race down the stretch saw Elkins' Trevor George get away late to take the win in 1:57.02. Keyser's Luca Altobello was 2nd in 1:57.51 with PikeView's Tyler Huffman closing well to take 3rd in 1:57.89. Elkins' Bobby Valentine and Fairmont Senior's Landon Jones were also under 2:00. Lap 1 - Valentine, Baker, Jones, Altobello, George, Fortney, Huffman, Haynes. Finish - George, Altobello, Huffman, Valentine, Jones, Scott, Fortney, Marshall.
RunWV's Current Score: 27 of 32.

1600 Meter Run
In one of the weekend's more anticipated races (by me at least), saw a very close race with the primary three contenders at the front from the beginning. They had company for about 2 1/2 laps before they really pulled away to the final 3 man showdown. In the end, Keyser's Luca Altobello pulled away late for the win in 4:16.47. Elkins' Trevor George had lost contact on the final lap but used a furious final 50 to slip back into 2nd in 4:17.78 with Fairmont Senior's Landon Jones in 3rd at 4:17.99. This group ened up over 7 seconds ahead of the rest. Lap 1 - George, Altobello, Jones, Marshall, Scott, Valentine, Baker, Annon. Lap 2 - George, Altobello, Jones, Marshall, Scott, Valentine, Straight, Annon. Lap 3 - Altobello, Jones, George, Scott, Marshall, Valentine, Annon, Straight. Finish - Altobello, George, Jones, Valentine, Scott, Annon, Marshall, Straight. One of my predicted placers scratched the event.
RunWV's Current Score: 33 of 40.

3200 Meter Run
The 3200 was another of the more anticipated races with 4 guys believed to be a threat to win. It played out just like that with 4 guys within 1.2 seconds after 7 laps. The big final lap kick to the finish saw Keyser's Luca Altobello put down a 60.55 final lap to take the win in 9:14.08. Elkins' Trevor George got by Fairmont Senior's Landon Jones late for 2nd, 9:16.39 to 9:16.99. Winfield's Trace Marshall held with the group for 7 laps but couldn't match the kick and was a strong 4th in 9:22.85. Everyone else was over 17 seconds behind with Herbert Hoover's Dylan Straight in 5th in 9:40.45 and Grafton's Colson Annon in 6th in 9:45.15. Lap 1 - George, Altobello, Marshall, Jones, Hale, Dowdy, Straight, Skinner. Lap 2 - George, Altobello, Jones, Marshall, Zorick, Straight, Skinner, Hale. Lap 3 - George, Altobello, Jones, Marshall, Zorick, Straight, Skinner, Hale. Lap 4 - George, Altobello, Jones, Marshall, Zorick, Straight, Skinner, Annon. Lap 5 - Altobello, George, Gones, Marshall, Straight, Zorick, Skinner, Annon. Lap 6 - Altobello, George, Jones, Marshall, Straight, Zorick, Skinner, Annon. Lap 7 - George, Jones, Altobello, Marshall, Straight, Annon, Skinner, Zorick. Lap 8 - Altobello, George, Jones, Marshall, Straight, Annon, Skinner, Schaefer.
RunWV's Current Score: 40 of 48.

110 Meter High Hurdles
Point Pleasant's Evan Bailes ran away from the field in 15.15. Winfield's Aiden Tate nipped Nicholas' Isaac Miner for 2nd with both recording a 15.75. No one else was under 16 seconds.
RunWV's Current Score: 46 of 56.

300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles
Greenbrier East Freshman Aiden Denning was the only one to go under 40 seconds with a 39.72 clocking. Winfield's Aiden Tate was 2nd in 40.63 with East Fairmont's Jacen Beckley 3rd in 40.82.
RunWV's Current Score: 53 of 64.

4x100 Meter Relay
Greenbrier East got out well and closed well to give the unit of Jysheim Green, Devin Penn, Aiden Denning, and Nathan Suttle the solid win in 43.06. Capital was 2nd in 43.49. Bridgeport inched out Ripley for 3rd with both at 43.70. One of my predicted placers false started and another hobbled through with injury.
RunWV's Current Score: 58 of 72.

4x200 Meter Relay
Bridgeport was strong througout and passed well to give the group of Kieran Moore, Gavin Williams, J.T. Ritter, and William George the win in 1:29.75. They were over a second ahead of Princeton, who was 2nd in 1:30.93. Greenbrier East was a close 3rd in 1:31.18, and Hampshire was also under 1:32 in 4th.
RunWV's Current Score: 64 of 80.

4x400 Meter Relay
Winfield scored the win when Ari Clark hawked down the 400 Meter Champion on the anchr leg. He closed up on the backstretch, swung wide coming out of the turn and pulled slightly away down the stretch to give the team of Lincoln Haynes, Carter Workman, Cody Medvick, and Ari Clark the win in 3:26.84. Princeton was a close 2nd in 3:27.26. Point Pleasant scored 3rd from Heat 1 in 3:29.15. This trio was over 2 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. One of my predicted placers got disqualified.
RunWV's Current Score: 70 of 88.

4x800 Meter Relay
Elkins blew open a close race on the final leg to take a 10+ second win. Elkins took the early lead on a 1:59.15 opening leg from Bobby Valentine, but Winfield was right there with them in 1:59.40 from Lincoln Haynes. Those two remained really close in leg 2 with both teams getting 2:01 legs. Elkins led by 0.16. Winfield got a 1:59.44 leg from Nikolaus von Wullfen (if the listed order is correct) to move into the lead by 0.63 seconds after 3 legs. But Elkins' Trevor George dropped a 1:55.91 leg to pull significantly away on the final lap and give the squad of Bobby Valentine, Josh Bodkins, Dylan Fortney, and Trevor George the win in 7:56.80, which just missed the AAA All-Time list. Winfield was an easy 2nd as everyone else was over 18 seconds behind after 3 legs. Keyser got a 1:58.31 leg from Luca Altobello to secure 3rd, and they needed it because John Marshall got a 1:57.98 from Brodie Baker to secure 4th. PikeView got a 1:57.80 leg from Tyler Huffman to move from 7th to 5th.
RunWV's Current Score: 77 of 96.

Shuttle Hurdle Relay
Point Pleasant took over on a blistering 2nd leg from Lucas Beckett and never trailed again, taking the win in 57.42, nearly 1.7 seconds ahead of 2nd place Bridgeport, who went 59.11 Capital was also under 60 in 3rd with a 59.90.
RunWV's Current Score: 83 of 104.

High Jump
Herbert Hoover's Maddox White jumped cleanly through 6'2 and was the only one to do so to take the win. Point Pleasant's Lucas Beckett and Hampshire's Chase Crane also cleared 6'2 in taking the next two spots.
RunWV's Current Score: 89 of 112.

Pole Vault
After a trio of athletes cleared 13'0, Point Pleasant's Cohen McDaniel was in 3rd place, but he launched himself over 13'6 on this 1st attempt, and no one was able to match it, sending him from 3rd into 1st. Point Pleasant's Cole Shaw and Winfield's Laiken Thompson were the other two to clear 13'0 in taking the next two spots. Only two others cleared 12'0.
RunWV's Current Score: 96 of 120.

Long Jump
Keyser's Dominik Crawford was in 6th place after the preliminaries, and then moved into 2nd on his 1st jump in finals, and then went 21'4.50 on his 5th attempt to snag the win. Winfield's Nikeese Carter went 21'00.50 to take 2nd. Hampshire's Jackson Frazer was 3rd with a 20'7.50 .
RunWV's Current Score: 100 of 128.

Shot Put
Robert C. Byrd's James McMillion moved into the lead on his 4th attempt and then sent his 5th throw 52'11 to secure the lead. Point Pleasant's Caden Hill only landed 2 legal throws, but both were over 50' with a best of 50'4.50 for 2nd. Nicholas' Devin Nash just missed the 50' mark with a 49'9.25 throw. Bridgeport's Jaylen Brown scored 4th with a 49'0 throw, which was his best of the competition by over 2 feet. Everyone else was nearly 3 feet behind.
RunWV's Current Score: 106 of 136.

Discus
Point Pleasant's Caden Hill hit 4 legal throws, and each was enough to win the event by at least 7 feet. He saved the best for last with a 165'4 toss on his final attempt. Elkin's Donovan Howes only had 2 legal throws, but both were easily enough for 2nd place with a top throw of 154'8. Keyser's Cole Cook moved from 5th to 3rd on his final attempt.
RunWV's Current Score: 111 of 144.

The final score of 111 of 144 means that 77.1% of the people picked to place did indeed place. That is 5 worse than last year. It started off pretty well in the sprints, deteriorated in the distance, hurdles, and relays, and went all to pieces in the field events. I didn't have a single event in which I got all 8 placers. Congratulations to those that proved me wrong.
